Changes in homocysteine levels during normal pregnancy and preeclampsia and its relation with oxidative stress
نویسنده
چکیده
Preeclampsia is one of the most common pregnancy complications causing high morbidity and mortality for both mother and fetus especially in developing countries. Although the exact cause of preeclampsia is still unknown, the basic pathology lies in the endothelial dysfunction and intense vasospasm. 1 Homocysteine is an amino acid formed during demethylation of dietary methionine. Elevated blood levels of homocysteine are now recognized as an important risk marker for both preeclampsia and eclampsia. 2 The vascular effects of hyper homocysteinemia includes endothelial cell injury and thrombus formation. Elevated plasma homocysteine is an independent risk factor for peripheral vascular disease and coronary artery disease. 3

Background : Preeclampsia is a major cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. The aim of the present study was to assess serum levels of isoprostane F2α, malondialdehyde and total homocysteine in preeclamptic women compared with normal pregnant women. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was designed. The patients consisted of 30 preeclamptic women. The normal group c...
متن کاملEffect of tempol, a synthetic antioxidant, on renal complications of L-NAME induced preeclampsia in rat
Introduction: It has been suggested that oxidative stress has a crucial role in the pathophysiology of preeclampsia. In the present study, the effect of tempol, a synthetic antioxidant, on kidney injuries and oxidative stress was investigated in an experimental model of preeclampsia in rats. Methods: Preeclampsia was induced by oral administration of L-NAME to the rats on the day 10 of pregnanc...

Background & Aims: Preeclampsia complicates 5 to 10 percent of all pregnancies that contribute greatly to maternal morbidity and mortality rates. Although homocysteine is a necessary amino acid to maintain cell growing and developing but at the serum levels above normal is a risk factor for some endothelial damages and thrombosis inside blood vessels. In the present study, we investigated the ...

Background : Prior studies have shown an association between preeclampsia and increased levels of plasma insulin. The present study was conducted to compare the changes in fasting plasma insulin levels in pre-eclamptic women with normal controls during pregnancy. متن کاملStudies on Oxidative stress in Preeclampsia
The aetio-pathogenesis of preeclampsia, a complication of pregnancy, is poorly understood. Oxidative stress has been shown to be the causative factor for hypertension as well as for target tissue damage in hypertension. Studies that explain the role of oxidative stress in preeclampsia have been few in number. The present study was aimed at (1) determining the extent of oxidative stress in preec...
